A BOKEH CHRISTMAS

BOKEH CHRISTMAS

If you follow me on , you may have heard this more than once. This year hasn’t felt like Christmas.

I attribute this unsatisfying feeling to a few things:

1) We’re new here. My husband and I moved to Florida from Erie, PA. We associate Christmas with being cold and snowy. I don’t mind warm, white-free winters, trust me. But my time up north must have ingrained this into my head. I anticipate next year being different. Maybe next year, I’ll send out palm trees on my Christmas cards.

Side note: I can’t believe how much snow the Mid-Atlantic region received! My little brother in Asheville, NC said they got 2 feet of snow. My grandma is flying in from Richmond, VA tomorrow… they got snow too. I heard on GMA this morning that the DC airports have been dealing with cancellations and delay all weekend.

I feel for you, friends but you can keep the snow

2) I miss my friends and family. I’ve lived away from my immediate family since I was 17 and moved to Erie for college. My friends are apart of my family and without them, it’s hard to get in the holiday spirit. Even though we’re far apart, I know my closest friends know they are in my heart this time for year.

3) No big holiday meals. I enjoy cooking. But I LOVE cooking holiday meals for lots of people. This year, the hubby has to work the evening of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so it might be just my grandmother and me. I’m happy that she’s joining!

This year was a year of transitions. My job moved me here a few months after I got married. The husband was out of work for a while. But good things come to those who wait and now he’s working again in the field he loves. We’re making friends. I’m grateful for new friends that I’ve met through photography. I’m confident that my holiday spirit has finally arrived, despite it being a little different. I know that next year will be even better.

So, to end on an up note, Happy Holidays to everyone. I wish you great happiness and warm blessings this year. To my husband, this is our first Christmas as husband and wife. And before you know it, it will be your BIRTHDAY and on New Year’s Eve it will be our anniversary. I’m glad I met someone who has such a good heart and that we’ll be spending the holidays together with our kitties.
